Ecce Homo is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional Passion image, drawing on the haunting, faded quality of the Shroud of Turin.
The figure of Christ emerges through a pale turquoise field, layered with distressed textures, worn edges and bold serif typography. The Latin text “QUI TOLLIS PECCATA MUNDI” refers to Christ as the one who takes away the sins of the world.
The deliberately weathered surface gives the piece the feeling of an old devotional image that has been softened and worn over time.
The faint, almost photographic presence of the figure recalls the mysterious imprint of the Shroud, while the restrained colour palette and typography give the work a distinctly contemporary character.
It is a quiet, contemplative piece that brings traditional Catholic imagery into a more modern interior.
